******  THE BACKSTAMP HERE IS MADE UP OF TWO PARTS.  THE UNDERGLAZE “LIMOGES FRANCE” AND AN OVERGLAZE “FLEURS DE LYS”  SHIELD.

THE UNDERGLAZE MARK RESEMBLES PART OF THE GUERIN STAMP; WHILE THE OVERGLAZE MARK IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE SAINT MARTIAL SHIELD (FROM THE CITY OF LIMOGES SEAL)  USED BY BAWO & DOTTER.

FURTHERMORE, ON SEVERAL PIECES IN THIS SET, THERE IS AN UNDERGLAZE BACKSTAMP  WITH THE COMPLETE GUERIN MARK AND THE  “FLEURS DE LYS” SHIELD STAMPED OVER IT.

I BELIEVE THE PORCELAIN WAS MADE BY WM GUERIN & COMPANY AND DECORATED BY BAWO & DOTTER.  BAWO AND DOTTER  ESTABLISED  ELITE WORKS  IN LIMOGES, FRANCE IN THE 1870’S, DECORATING BLANKS PURCHASED FROM LOCAL PORCELAIN MAKERS, INCLUDING THE WILLIAM GUERIN COMPANY.

BAWO AND DOTTER  EVENTUALLY TOOK OVER IT’S  SUPPLIER WILLIAM GUERIN IN 1920-21.  THE NEW COMPANY BECAME GUERIN-POUYAT-ELITE (GUERIN HAD ALREADY MERGED WITH JEAN POUYAT IN 1911).  IT HOWEVER HAD A SHORT RUN, CLOSING IN 1932.
