BLUE DANUBE-BLUE ONION  (c.1977+)  CUP AND SAUCER(s)- RECTANGLE STAMP- EXCELLENT!

 

THE CUPS AND SAUCERS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  THERE ARE NO CRACKS, CHIPS OR CRAZING.  THE COBALT BLUE AND MEISSEN STYLE PATTERN,  UNDER-GLAZED ON FINE TRANSLUCENT PORCELAIN,  DISPLAYS GREAT QUALITY!

THE CUPS MEASURE  4 1/4 INCHES  FROM RIM TO HANDLE END, 3 1/5 INCHES ACROSS THE RIM,  AND STAND 2 5/8 INCHES IN HEIGHT.  THE RAISED SAUCERS ARE 5 1/2 INCHES ACROSS IN DIAMETER. THE  RIMS OF BOTH ARE SCALLOPED.

*****THE BLUE ONION DESIGN IS A GROUPING OF SEVERAL FLORAL MOTIFS, WITH JAPANESE PEACHES AND POMEGRANATES ALONG THE RIM  …..  AND IN THE CENTER, STYLIZED PEONIES AND ASTERS, THEIR STEMS, IN FLOWING CURVES, WINDING AROUND A BAMBOO STALK.  MEISSEN WAS ONE OF THE FIRST IN EUROPE TO PRODUCE THIS PATTERN IN THE 1700’S.
